As one of the most recognizable stars of her generation, Angelina Jolie is a prolific actress with a huge fan base. It’s not hard to see why – she’s magnetic and talented. Without further ado, here is the best line-up if you feel like indulging in a Jolie movie today!
1. Girl, Interrupted (1999)
Susanna Kaysen suffers an overdose of aspirin and against her will, she is admitted to Claymoore, a psychiatric hospital. Once there, she meets a colorful troop of fellow patients that include the charismatic sociopath Lisa Rowe (Jolie).
Rowe plays on Susanna’s desire to leave Claymoore to facilitate her own escape. But once the pair run away, Susanna realizes the truth about running away from her problems and decides to take control of her own recovery.
2. Gia (1998)
Gia is a beautiful woman from Philadelphia who has dreams of becoming a fashion model. She moves to New York and gets a lucky break when Wilhelmina Cooper, an influential modelling agent, takes Gia under her wing.
Gia becomes a star but a series of events leave her lonely and addicted to heroin. As she battles to overcome her demons, Gia learns that some of the consequences of her bad choices cannot be avoided.
3. A Mighty Heart (2007)
This movie follows the true story of Daniel Pearl. While he was in Karachi and working as a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, Pearl was kidnapped by Omar Sheikh supporters in 2002.
The focus of the story is the intense search for Pearl that involved different law agencies including the security forces of Pakistan, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and the Department of Justice. Angelina Jolie plays the victim’s wife, Mariane Pearl.
4. Wanted (2008)
Wesley Gibson’s life is a boring mess. He has a dead-end job and a bad boss, he gets panic attacks and one of his co-workers is sleeping with his girlfriend. But one day, everything changes when Fox (Jolie) rescues him from an assassin called Cross.
She reveals that Gibson is actually an assassin himself with supernatural abilities. To protect him from Cross, Fox takes him to the Fraternity, a group of killers just like him, and trains Gibson to join their ranks. But he soon realizes that Cross is more than just a bad guy and that a deadly deception started the moment he met Fox.
5. Maleficent (2014)
In this spellbinding take on the fairytale “Sleeping Beauty,” viewers are treated to the events that led up to the baby princess Aurora being cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent (Jolie).
Years before, Maleficent and Stefan (Aurora’s future father) were in love but he betrayed her to marry the king’s daughter and take the throne. As an act of revenge, Maleficent casts a spell that will make the newborn princess fall into a deep sleep on her 16th birthday.
But as the fairy watches the little girl grows up she regrets her actions and attempts to save her. However, her own interference only helps the curse along.
6. Mr and Mrs Smith (2005)
John and Jane Smith’s marriage has lost its spark. After years together, their home life is dull but unbeknownst to each other, John and Jane are both contract killers working for different assassination firms.
They discover this explosive fact when both of them are assigned to kill the same target; Benjamin Danz. After they botch the assassination, John and Jane are given the order to eliminate their spouse. Initially attempting to do so, they discover that the Danz hit was a set-up from both their firms and the couple joins forces to retaliate.
7. Changeling (2008)
Based on a true story, the life of Christine Collins shatters in 1928 when her son, Walter, disappears. The LAPD gets a lot of bad publicity for its incompetence and also the way they bully civilians who challenge their authority.
To improve the department’s image, the LAPD returns Walter to his mother five months after he had vanished. But Christine is shocked – the boy is not her son but the police and even the young imposter insist that he is Walter. In the fight to find her child, Christine has to endure the terrifying way the police choose to silence her and the truth about who took her son.
8. Salt (2010)
Evelyn Salt is a CIA operative who just discovered that she is a Soviet sleeper agent programmed to kill the Russian president on US soil. Since such an event will trigger a war that could destroy America, the CIA wants to capture her at all costs. The Russians also plan to use Salt to kill the US president.
Salt has to overcome personal tragedy and the awakening of other sleeper agents close to home to stop an apocalyptic plan that had begun in her childhood.
9. Hackers (1995)
Dade Murphy is a talented hacker who had once crashed 1,500 computer systems and brought the New York Stock Exchange down by 7 points. Years later, aged 18, Dade is enrolled at a new high school and he is back to his old hacking ways. He befriends a group of hackers including Kate (Jolie) and Joey, a wannabe trailing the friends at school.
To prove himself, Joey hacks into a supercomputer and downloads a file as evidence of his accomplishment. But he soon discovers that the file he stole contains the secrets of a dangerous hacker who turns on him, Dade, and their friends in the ultimate hacker battle.
10. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Adventurer Lara Croft is given a letter from her deceased father who warns her that an upcoming planetary alignment could allow a dangerous artefact to fall into the hands of the Illuminati. Called the Triangle of Light, it can control time.
In the past, after it had wiped out a city the Triangle was broken into two and the pieces were hidden in different ancient temples. Lara embarks on an action-packed adventure to find the two halves before the Illuminati can reunite them and cause more destruction.
